A Planned Community
Fountain Hills is located in Maricopa County. The residential community has a low population density of 1,301 people per square mile. The whole Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metro community is home to 24,669 residents as of 2006. The average resident is 46 years old, well educated, married, travels about 29 minutes to work, and enjoys a household income of $66,200.  Named for the great man-made fountain located in the very heart of town, Fountain Hills is home to the world's 4th-tallest fountain, spraying over 560 feet. The independent municipality is northeast of Scottsdale, among the McDowell Mountain foothills nearby Fort McDowell and Salt River Indian reservations. Fountain Hills is also the 8th fastest-growing place in Arizona. Homes in the community are widely-spaced, especially in comparison to its urban neighbors.

Recreation
Fountain Hills’ Parks and Recreation Department works to enhance residents' quality of life by maintaining safe and accessible recreational services. The department offers a multitude of programs for toddlers, youth, adults and seniors. Fountain Hills’ residents can check out and register for the programs and classes online.  The department also operates the Fountain Hills Community Center, which offers a variety of services including rentals, meeting spaces, leisure classes and art displays. The community's four parks cover 116 acres and provide amenities such as ball fields and courts, dog recreation, disc golf, playgrounds and horseshoe.
